BOOK COLLECTIONS OF THE ELBASSY LIBRARY. DEDICATED TO THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TRANSFER OF THE CAPITAL

The project «Book Collections of the Elbassy library» continues to acquaint readers with book collections and new collections.

Among the recent book novelties is a collection of documents and materials from the personal archive of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbassy «Astana – a symbol of independent Kazakhstan» prepared by the archival work section of the Service of archival work and information.

This collection of documents and materials was prepared and published for the 20th anniversary of the transfer (relocation) of the capital.

The purpose of the collection is present the history of the formation and development of the capital of independent Kazakhstan in the perspective of the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev, his role in the process of formation and development of Astana through documents from the Personal Archive of the Head of State.

The collection consists from four sections of documents and photographs, systematized according to thematic and chronological principles. The total number of documents included in the collection – 286, photo documents – 126.

The first section of the collection includes archival documents and materials that reveal the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev on the need to transfer the capital from Almaty to Akmola.

The second section includes documents covering the process of preparation and holding of the official presentation ceremony of Astana on June 10, 1998 and also materials illustrating to the recognition of the capital of Kazakhstan by the world community, the celebrations of the Capital Day in different years.

The archival documents on the stage-by-stage process of building a new capital, as well as materials on the socio-economic development of Astana and others presents on the third section.

The fourth section includes the documents devoted to various international forums, meetings of the Heads of State at the highest level held in Astana, for example, the organization of the Astana Summit of the OSCE, the preparation and holding of the international specialized exhibition EXPO-2017, the issues of an inter-Syrian settlement, etc.

Some archival documents and materials are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. The manuscripts of the Head of State are interesting (working notes, inserts, edits, marks on documents). Voluminous in content documents are presented in extracts (for example, stenograms of meetings of the Supreme Council of the RK, reports of the Head of State at various forums, programs for the development of the capital, etc.).

The compilers of the collection hope that with the accumulation of a certain amount of documents, the publication can become periodic, covering events and facts, devoted to the subsequent anniversary dates of Astana – a symbol of independent Kazakhstan.
