December 26, 2017, at 11.00 in the building of the Nazarbayev Center will be held the ceremony of presenting the collection of the facsimile edition of the Belarusian pioneer printer Francysk Skaryna to the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy. The event was organized jointly with the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Republic of Kazakhstan as part of the Library's project "Dialogue Through Culture". This event continues a series of events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Belarus.
The collection of books is provided by the National Library of Belarus. In 2017, the Republic of Belarus and the entire world community celebrate a significant date - the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian and East Slavic book printing. The anniversary is of particular importance in the context of world culture, and therefore included in the UNESCO Calendar of Commemorative Dates.
An important event within the framework of the celebration was the completion of the international scientific publishing project for facsimile reprinting of the book heritage of Francysk Skaryna.
At present, Belarus, which gave the world the East Slavonic first printer, has only a few of his editions. In total, about 520 copies of the publications of the Belarusian enlightener have been preserved in the world, which are stored in libraries, museums and archives in Great Britain, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia, Russia, the USA, and Ukraine.
The facsimile edition of books presents to the public a valuable layer of the cultural heritage of the Belarusian people and is a basic source for historical, philological, cultural and bibliological research.
The high level of interstate cooperation, which was developed during the recent official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Belarus, has many vectors, including cultural and humanitarian ones, as evidenced by the ceremony, to which representatives of the general public of the capital of Kazakhstan are invited.
